Why not 5 stars - over-reliance on one voice and weekly releases
The narrator has a nice turn of phrase and a knack for telling a story. He has an excellent outside view of Pakistan and Bhutto, and I was beguiled by the story. And the production has all the hallmarks of the BBC: excellent journalism and high technical for the sound quality. However, I deducted a star as the podcasts is only one person’s filtered view - even if that person is accomplished and expert. I would have much preferred to have at least a couple of narrators weave their stories, and to have a insider’s view rather than rely solely on the journalistic interpretation of a single expatriate/ external voice. I was tempted to deduct another star for BBC’s decision to drip feed us weekly updates!! It is a beguiling story, why not daily updates? Or 3 a week?

I love history, learning about the past and what shapes our future. The BBC does this beautifully and for an expat overseas the Podcasts are extremely enjoyable. Keep up the good work. Mark

Gripping story told by a man who was on the ground in Pakistan as it unfolded. BBC brings top production value. Recommend

Been a BBC WS/R4 for years and like the programmes Owen Bennett Jones broadcasts so the chance of a podcast was like an Xmas present. Gripping story of the struggle of Pakistan politics with the story of B.B. return to Pakistan. Looking forward to the other episodes.
