I love listening to smart people talk
This show has blown open the doors of how I can understand astrology. I've started learning it only in the past two years, mostly from the evolutionary perspective, and completely informal self study. Although I've noticed that there are some controversies among astrologers, until I started listening to Chris Brennan, I was only vaguely aware of other styles or traditions of practicing astrology. And yet, I've become more and more uneasy with the New-Agey positivism that I'm hearing in other podcasts, and I always roll my eyes when the "goddess asteroids" or anything about ancient myths enter an astrology conversation. Positivism is unethical, the asteroids are too new to test, and basing an interpretation of a planet on the myth associated with its name is preposterous (In my oh so humble opinion, ha ha!!). Anyway, it's refreshing to hear a more academic, nuanced, historically-informed perspective on astrology. One style suggestion: limit length of the podcast to an hour-ish, and break up long conversations into part 1 and part 2 if necessary. Also, provide a "station identification break" midway to anchor and reorient the listeners. Sometimes I can't listen to the entire episode at once, and when I come back to the conversation I can't remember the name of the guest or the overall point of the conversation.Read full review »
