Misleading and sensationalist at best
While the topic is interesting and the show is well-produced (good audio quality), they seem like they are grasping at straws to create a story. Interviews from people who “knew” Dr. Brandt growing up are from people who didn’t really know him much at all, and don’t really give any information - like interviewing a random neighbor who barely knew him, and a nephew he met in person once maybe twice? Plus it seems like a very invasive type of journalism. Clearly he was a troubled man who for whatever reason had serious issues growing up that he kept private. It seems unethical to try to dig this stuff up and broadcast it to the world now. It is also misleading to portray Dr. Brandt as some rogue doctor clandestinely experimenting on “guinea pigs” in his Miami clinic. The truth is that ALL drugs must go through rigorous clinical trials with human patients, and most respected doctors participate in clinical trials for drug approval. Patients are monitored thoroughly for safety, and they also can only participate after giving informed consent. The way the reporter framed it was clearly only for impact and made it sound like he was running some kind of Frankenstein clinic or something, which is cheap journalism and just plain not accurate. Disappointed overall with the reporting for this podcast.

I am only on the 3rd episode. However, while I can’t feel sorry for the excessively vain (& I live in LA!), but it’s a terribly interesting story. However, to blame his suicide on hurt feelings brought on by a one-episode TV parody is ridiculous!!!! SNL (& similar parody shows) would be...Read full review »

Made it into episode 2, but had to stop. Felt like the narrator is trying to uncover secrets about someone’s personal life that isn’t relevant, but is just gossip. She admits publicly outing someone is bad, but tries to do it anyway, tossing speculation onto a man with a family to worry about. I...Read full review »
