“It sounds like a convoluted book proposal to an editor about Dr Brandt, but the author has nothing of real substance to fill a book so creates a podcast. Let Dr Brandt RIP! Yes he chose a drastic way to end his life, but suicide is not something someone dreams up one day: it takes a great deal of thought, planning and disassociation from reality, caused by a long and severe depth of depression and hopelessness from which suicide seems at the time as the only option, and for that brief moment, as his colleague recalled, they will sound better than they have in a long time, this is the most dangerous time, as it is in this period that they have firmly decided on the ultimate solution for relief. As upside down as this thinking may seem to everyone, for the one who can see no other solution or option it promises the ultimate relief. There is no thought of the ones left behind, the confusion and chaos or the devastation that will result. Therefore, I see no reason to try to understand the what, when, who or why, sadly it just is. Rather celebrate Dr Brandt for who he was, there is no angle to be found in his death.”
