Let someone else talk about the MCU
Early on, I liked this podcast and how introspective Sean was in his discussions, especially when interviewing the creative individuals behind the movies. But please stop reviewing Marvel Studios movies. I understand that’s what has the pop culture consciousness right now and thus The Ringer’s movie pod is forced to talk about it, but Sean is terrible despite continually claiming to be a fan of the movies AND the comics. Thank god Mal was the co-host for the Endgame episode. She and Jason are WONDERFUL commentators on fandom while still being able to deconstruct and criticize the visual media. Marvel Studios has been at this for 11 years and Fennessey supposedly read the comics. How much longer can he express condescending disbelief that a movie contains a Pegasus, gun-toting talking raccoon, and a tree? How can he be in awe of the mostly good shared cinematic universe Marvel Studios achieved, but then criticize Endgame for not being able to stand on its own as an independent movie? That completely misses the point. I agree with the opinions that you shouldn’t be criticizing these movies on points and details you don’t even get right. You don’t need to be an expert, but at least do the homework if you’re going to make a point on a particular detail. Otherwise it looks lazy. Overall though, please leave the comic book and superhero-based movie talk to people like Micah Peters, Jason Concepcion, and the Masked Man. Even Ryan and Greenwald are better.

While The Rewatchables is completely listenable, entertaining and educational, this podcast seems more concerned with how smart and discerning the participants come across. Those involved spend way too much time finding alleged meaning where I’m certain the writers and directors of the films...Read full review »

I’m just waiting for Fennessy to write a book honestly. The pod on Channel 33 was one of the most thoughtful, insightful and swaggishly film dorky pods ever. The best.
