“I was hesitant before listening, thinking this might be cringey like good episodes of The Office are cringey: a little too revealing of those embarrassing human quirks we try to keep hidden, too vulnerable. But Neal holds awareness of the pod’s premise while discussing all kinds of things, and so far at least, doesn’t cross over into the territory of, “No, look away! That’s too much!”. I can’t define what that line is, but I’d know it if it was crossed.
“You are not alone” has been my big takeaway, remembering those times I was up for a job review or being asked into a meeting, and I always, always think, “Oh God, they see me. I’ve screwed up, and I’m a terrible human being” and instead I get the raise and the excellent review and the surprise of “This time, I can’t deny the fact that you like me, you really like me!” More than me experience that. Some people who are quite excellent, good humans experience that. Michelle Obama experiences that? Neal, book Michelle!
I’m looking forward to seeing who else will be on & hearing what they have to say, and I’m glad this exploration of Blocks is happening.”
