Best podcast I’ve listened to in ages. Thorough and thoughtfully told. The real highlight is the host who is just incredibly likable, effective and engaging. I’m from the US but I lived near the location where this poor boy died years ago, the description of the community and scenery is so...Read full review »

An incredible case of intrigue around the death of a little boy - how could the Police get it so wrong? Investigations are detailed, factual and observations balanced. Ill be looking forward to the conclusions & also more from Melanie Reid & team who have done brilliant work to help...Read full review »

This podcast has me gripping the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to listen to the next episode. So many questions that hopefully will bring answers. The inquest has revealed some disturbing information about this case that’s for sure. Loved the input from Karen Smith! The awesome journalism from...Read full review »

Listening to this mother have to defend herself to a system that seems to have played into her abusive ex’s fantasies of destroying her is excruciating. She sounds like a great mother. Taking your child to the doctors when he’s unwell, not calling his name out while directly on the phone to...Read full review »

It’s great that there’s finally an inquest questioning everyone and putting the pieces of the puzzle together but I have found it very relaxed with the lawyers questioning the mother so far with her constantly interrupting them and back chatting with a rude attitude this would not be allowed in...Read full review »

appreciative for continued releases on this story- this mother is lying like a rug

I’m loving season 2 so far, however I’m sad we haven’t heard from the USA specialist, instead we heard Paul Joans speaking to the mum about what questions Miss Smith has said; surely that wasn’t all of them?? I really hope we get to hear all of the inquest. The mum being so much on the defence...Read full review »

I’m absolutely not saying anyone is guilty or innocent, but the way this mother speaks to people and lawyers in particular is so infuriating, it makes my blood boil. As much as her attitude drives me nuts, this is a great podcast…

A big “Thank you” to Melanie Reid and the enlightened producers for presenting what must be one of the most important and puzzling cases to be covered in a podcast. And praise the gods that Karen Smith is lending her expertise and “fresh eyes” to the investigation and current inquest.

This podcast feels like a witch hunt, especially after listening to the first 2 episodes of season 2. The questioning towards Michelle Officer is abhorrent. I used to work in emergency services and the amount of ppl that don’t know what their countries emergency number is, is shocking. Not...Read full review »

Great journalism, thorough investigation doing the job that the police should have done. The reporting on the coronial enquiry is excellent and also includes reminders of statements made at the time Lachie went missing.

I was so impressed with season one and anxiously awaited season two. This mother is so unbelievable… I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, but the fake crying and contradictions in her story, after only two episodes, are just outrageous! It’s a great relief that this and other podcasts...Read full review »

Such a riveting story with twists and turns, beautifully told by Melanie in an undramatic, pragmatic way. She interviews people in a sympathetic, understanding way, careful not to trip them up so that they can share their story on their terms. However she seeks and provides clarity when she...Read full review »

Fantastic podcast, excellent journalism, fascinating insights, extremely disturbing policing. I feel for the Lachies father, as a mother of a 3.5yo myself I would be searching for answers in the same way. Look forward to hearing more after the latest review being under taken

The host did such a great job with this podcast. It’s frustrating to hear how poorly the police handled the case. I feel like Lachie’s mother and siblings know much more than they say. The mother’s lack of interest in finding out the truth is mind boggling. Either she killed him or knows who did...Read full review »

Even with the bonus episodes you’re left with a new investigation about to start, a coroners inquest in progress. Then nothing? The stated lack of a timeline then no new construction of it, no new interviews, no potential suspects despite very obvious fingers pointing in one direction. Half...Read full review »

One of the best true crime podcasts I’ve listened to for the reason that it is well explained and easy to follow. …and such incompetence! How and why would the police think a very small boy could get to that location without a mark on him; a full nappy too! His feet would have been cut up and his backside would be raw. How do these people still have jobs “protecting the community.” I hope there are...Read full review »

A great first part of an investigation, raising many questions about a possibly flawed (or incompetent) investigation. Hopefully a second series will cover the question we are all left asking…if it was not an accidental drowning, then who killed Lockie?

I really feel for the family and it definitely seems unlikely that Lachie could have walked all the way to the pond on his own, yet after 8 episodes I've learned almost nothing that makes me actually suspect anyone. Melanie Reid, the investigative journalist host of this podcast, is a commanding presence in this very well told story. She has the level of impact that leads to action - like Hedley Thomas (Teacher’s Pet), as another reviewer mentioned. I prefer this series to her earlier one about the crèche.

I’m up to episode 3 and so far this podcast I have to say is incredibly repetitive. The same thing has been said over and over again and at end of ep 3 one is none the wiser. Immersion in cold water can cause spasm of the larynx and prevent water entering the lungs of a drowning victim. Young children are particularly susceptible to laryngospasm. Tragic but explicable.

Well produced and a gripping listen from start to finish. I really hope this brings some answers and justice for Lachie and his father. So sad and unimaginable the pain he must be going through knowing something isn’t right with what happened to his wee boy.
