This is old-school investigative journalism done right: watching, listening, following every lead, questioning, calling in experts, lobbying for re-examination, and getting the best out of interviewees through connection, doggedness, or piquing their professional interest. Loads of hard work. Constant vigilance. Endless knocking on doors. The podcast is broken into chapters that make sense rather than using annoying cliffhangers. We return to hear more because Mel has made us care, not because we’re being tantalised, and sensitive details are dealt with thoughtfully but never omitted if they are relevant. This is journalism heading into Hedley Thomas territory, and that’s high praise indeed.
