“They've built an excellent world, with a very interesting concept. BUT the dialogue is too cringey to listen to. No one talks like that. It's hard to tell if the acting is good because the lines are bad. The music plays constantly, and it is distracting. It's lovely music. But the podcast relies far too much on the beautiful music. It's bad writing. Just really bad, awkward writing. The ideas are great, and I get the disjointed structure. BUT it is missing a lot of cohesion and clarity. They rely on a lot of cliches as well, which is very unfortunate considering the creativity in world building. This made me sad.
The main antagonists are basically Team Rocket, and do not generate any fear, tension, creepiness, or otherwise antagonistic feelings. Whenever they talk, all I hear are Jesse and James looking for Pikachu.
By the time I am supposed to care about the characters (i.e. when things start to happen that threaten their safety), I do not care at all. Again, this is a writing issue.
I really really love the Lovecraftian feel, and the eerie nature of the Watchtower, and the rest of the worldbuilding. I am genuinely in love with the idea. I just wish the writing was at that same level.
If you're bored and looking for something neat, go for it. But if you want something to be really invested in, then this might not be your thing. It's pretty OK.
