“If you love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches then you’ll love this podcast. Julian Simpson dips his knife into the deep well of Cathulu mythos and spreads this on a base of great characters and narrative. Then he dips his knife again, into another deep well, English myths, legends, superstitions, witchcraft and ufo’s. He spreads all of this with a deft touch respecting the source material and embellishing upon it within a modern context. The end result is a heady mix that is guaranteed win for any lover of the esoteric. If there was a flaw it would be the over reliance on expository characters but I actually enjoy this as I understand there are limitations.
The voice actors are brilliant with only the occasional dud note across the entire series. They inhabit each character bringing them to life; Kennedy Fisher is a balanced modern heroine and Mat Heawood an excellent counterpart. Even the baddies have a delicious level of evil that makes them equally entrancing. All the supporting cast are as essential and vital as much because of the actors abilities as it is down to Julian Simpson’s writing. The sound effects are subtle and cleverly frame scenes without relying upon them. The piano melody played throughout provides a melancholy note.
If you’ve never tried a peanut butter and jelly sandwich now’s the time.”
