The problem I have with Lovecraft is that his stories are all atmosphere and no action. This podcast has a similar problem. There is action, but basically it is all atmosphere and no resolution. I find that ultimately unsatisfying. Plus! In one of his tapes Akeley said he’d sent a written...Read full review »

This show is so good that some people didn’t grasp that episode 9 was intentional and apparently couldn’t wait a week for an explanation.

I like BBC’s podcasts on real-world mysteries like “The Missing Cryto Queen” (which is a fantastic piece of investigative journalism) or “Fake Heiress”. Somehow I got subscribed automatically to this fictional story. But I really don’t like to listen to any fiction & I didn’t realise this...Read full review »

This is one of the better mocumentary stories out there right now. Retells The Case of Charles Dexter Ward and The Whisperer in Darkness in the modern day in the style of a true crime podcast. Really good and suspenseful, any Lovecraft fans should check it out.

More please! Really entertaining and so well acted.

Gripping and immersive - can’t wait for the next series... there will be another, won’t there? <hopeful>
Haggis Makkah via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 08/08/20
A brilliant job has been done of modernising Lovecraft’s stories while still keeping all of the mystery. I love how various myths, folklore, conspiracies, and real events and people have been linked to create an impression of something that is big and far-reaching as to be incomprehensible. I...Read full review »

This show is amazing! I haven’t been this obsessed by a show - radio, tv, whatever - in a VERY long time. Well done. Please make more!

What a great podcast series this is. I found it by accident, gave it a listen and was blown away. Without doubt one of the best bits of audio drama I have listened to. Best in class.
MarkyT via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 06/27/20
I enjoyed this a lot — it’s a great binge. Their adaptation of Lovecraft’s stories (two of my favourite) is clever in bringing them into the modern world and casting it as a “true crime” podcast investigation, even though I’m finding that genre increasingly irritating. It does alter some...Read full review »

Great writing and acting. Complex, intriguing and genuinely scary in parts. This is a grownup drama which doesn't spoon feed you the plot. You need to think about the implications of things. I've listened to it 3 times now and still finding new things. Can't wait for series 3.Read full review »

I love the show within a show format. What’s real? What’s not? Hmmm. From at least one reviewer’s comments, I see your left some listeners perplexed. As it should be.

Amazing writing, well produced and acted. My only complaint is I want more! I loved the modern day take on Lovecraftian classics while keeping the integrity of the story in tact!

The third series in this most exceptional podcast series The Shadow Over Innsmouth should be broadcast by the end of this year! This has been the best podcast drama series I have ever listened to. Please spread the word and tell all your friends!

Most of the podcasts I listen to are about real life stories (The Moth, This American Life, Radiolab) and I’ve never listened to a drama before. But these were amazing! Have just finished series 1. It feels like a spooky old ghost story but unfolding in real time. The acting is great and it’s gripping. I often rewind bits just because they are so dramatic or interesting I want to hear it again.

Glad I stumbled on this during lockdown. Beautifully produced with some real scary moments, they capture HPL’s sense of dread and insanity, while avoiding his gruesome racism and classism. There is a lot to like in both series so far. Interesting storylines based on stories by HPLovecraft, really good vocal acting and solid production values. This is a must listen for Lovecraft fans, or fans of sci-fi/ horror in general. Superb pacing, slick sound design, a theme song that burrows into your brain like some Eldrich sound worm and stays there. I absolutely love this podcast. The story is extremely gripping and has been well translated from the original setting to the modern day while retaining the spooky Lovecraftian atmosphere. I’m blazing through the first two seasons and hope that they keep this going in 2020.

There is something so eerily weird about this podcast. When you tell someone you’re currently listening to a podcast about a podcast about demons, UFOs and disappearing psychiatric patients, it sounds as bizarre as the story itself. And I’m sure there are some kind of ASMR or subliminal messaging...Read full review »

I’ve listened to all of these now and thoroughly recommend them. I’m a Lovecraft fan anyway, but the atmosphere these podcasts create is very 21st century as well as creepy, thought provoking and atmospheric.
