“This is, genuinely, a really good show. The cast is great, the story is compelling, the sound work and editing is excellent. The way that they reference and modernize HP Lovecraft work is amazing!
However, there is a turn in season four. All of a sudden, the show gets very political. Mostly, it is a perfectly reasonable criticism of extremism, and people with selfish, destructive ideology. But, they also lump in pop politics, and their own political beliefs, in an extremely potent way. I listen to the show with my girlfriend; while I am fairly conservative, she is very liberal. Both of us were made uncomfortable by the political involvement in the show. She was uncomfortable because of the “conspiracy theory“ nature of it all, and the basically nonstop repetition of reference to those toxic ideas. I was uncomfortable because the show lumps in huge slaves of the population, and widespread political idea, into of basket of just “bad “. While trying to demonize extremism (perfectly reasonable), they end up demonizing conservatism as a whole.
I can understand that viewpoint, and if you disagree with conservatism, I understand that, I can respect that. However, I don’t need to listen to basically just that and some sci fi elements it for an entire season.”
