Excellent and with a timeless message...
Watched Episode 1 last night... deeply moving I imagine that those whose lives were forever altered by this viciously tragic event; would agree that the essential message (which this masterful retelling has set out to convey) is not unique to the USSR of the mid-1980s. That essential message: What happens when obfuscation and lies prevail over truth, is a timeless one. Not only is this message timeless, it is without boundaries: this struggle occurs wherever hierarchies of power exist. The common denominator, in every conceivable example (no matter the location or the era) is (of course) human beings. “We have seen the enemy and it is us.” Walt Kelly re-purposed this quote and used it to great effect in his comic strip, Pogo. This was during the turmoil of the Vietnam War. However it’s not surprising that these words came from correspondence between high-ranking officers during the War of 1812. (I thought it was originally from World War II and it may have appeared during that time.) If anything, the temporally fluid nature of this quote serves to convey a message we all should remember. It does not matter who we are, where we come from, nor what our ideologies are ... the struggle to bring truth to light rather than being trapped in misinformation and lies, should be a deeply important quest for every individual. To ignore this, comes at the peril of everything and everyone each of us holds dear. Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this incredible retelling to fruition. I‘ve only seen the first episode and I am stunned and deeply saddened that so many innocent lives were destroyed for the sake of a few in positions of power.

It took us 3 days to get in touch with her and when we did, she had no idea what was happening . However, the last portion of her trip was suddenly cancelled. There was media silence in...Read full review »

After just one episode this podcast is a fantastic companion piece to the excellent HBO miniseries; despite a puzzling lack of jingles, be they patriarchal or otherwise, Peter Sagal is, as always, an effective and witty interlocutor and does a nice job expressing the sense of horror the viewer...Read full review »
