I am a college professor and commute to my job (1.5 hrs per trip). I am not a historian but love history. I thoroughly enjoy the podcast on my drives and Rich and Tracy keep it scholarly without being academic and boring, citing to sources, keeping the most salient information, and interject light humor, which is great and brings a smile. They have careers, but bring this podcast to people who share their interest in history, especially shedding light on many characters that you wouldn't otherwise normally learn about. I greatly appreciate their ability to tell the story behind the history, and I welcome their personal take when there is conflict between authors. Love the bloopers, excellent choice of music, and the book review on every podcast is excellent, as well as accompanying facebook page if you want to go find the book. I also listen to the Life & Legacy of Napoleon podcast and recommend that one too. Timing of 20-30 minutes is perfect to keep attention and yet be thorough with the issue addressed in the podcast. I'm learning so much and it's like having a conversation with your neighbors across the street. So informative and friendly at the same time.Read full review »

I mainly listen to science, skeptical or atheist related podcasts so while this is a bit of a departure from the norm for me, it has quickly become one of my favorites. Keep up the good work guys!

This podcast is surprisingly good. The scripts are crisp, with an occasional touch of humor. The book recommendations are largely worthwhile. The podcast is notable for being thorough and balanced. I recommend it.
