A.D. Aliwat - Sometimes the best way to get things done is to take a break
Description
Welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I’m your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is November 3rd.
Today, we're celebrating something especially refreshing:
Zero Tasking Day.
It’s a day dedicated to doing absolutely nothing. If that just gave you a tiny rush of joy – or at least a smirk – then this day is for you.
Even if you don't think you could possibly have the time to do nothing, even for a few minutes... think again.
Today is also Daylight Savings Day a day the clock falls back an hour... so with that extra hour you have some time to relax, set aside the to-do list and simply.... be.
The idea is to take a break from the hustle and bustle, giving yourself permission to bask in the art of nothingness.
And in the spirit of Zero Tasking Day, here’s a quote from A.D. Aliwat:
Who once said...
“Sometimes the best way to get things done is to take a break.”Now, I know that might sound counterintuitive. How could doing nothing actually get things done?
Ridiculous
But think of it this way: ever tried to power through your list only to feel like you’re running in circles by mid-afternoon? Sometimes we’re so stuck in “go-mode” that we lose track of why we’re doing it all in the first place.
Taking a step back, even if it feels like a pause button on productivity, often gives our minds the space they need to work things out in the background.
When we slow down, the fog lifts, ideas sharpen, and suddenly those big, overwhelming tasks don’t feel quite so daunting. It’s like hitting refresh on your own mental browser – a bit of a reboot for clarity and focus.
There is a reason why the palmodoro technique is so popular. Because it works!
There is a lot of research that says our brains have a limited amount of focus. And 90 minutes of deep work seems to be the limit before we need to take a little break.
So today, I invite you to take Aliwat’s advice to heart and embrace the art of doing nothing. And if you’re someone who feels anxious just thinking about not actioning your todo list, here’s a tip: put "Take a break" on your list. Wow... now you have to take a break to get that satisfaction of ticking that little box
See? Productivity and rest, all in one.
Ok... That is it for today. I have been Andrew McGivern and this has been the Daily Quote. Thanks for joining me, and remember – sometimes the most productive thing you can do is… nothing at all.
I'm ready to take my break right after I say these final words for today.
I'll be back again tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station and I'll see you tomorrow for another Daily Quote.
Have fun stormin the Castle!
