The DP podcast is an excellent source of ideas for professional military officers. I strongly recommend it to all military professionals. In my Army, “doing” is largely prized over “thinking.” Mick gives me hope that we can move beyond that paradigm. Mick and Steve Leonard’s discussion of how DM...Read full review »

I have listened to every episode of the dead Prussian. In some cases 5-6 episodes back to back and I have encouraged my colleagues to follow this podcast series. This is a show worth listening to from the beginning. Each episode is stand alone but provides valuable insights. Do not be put off by...Read full review »

This is great! Great for listening and thinking! The show on Carl ft (!) Alice in wonderland by your guest who questioned her experience and is (only) a 1st Lt is a story I can very much relate to as I stare down the barrel of military staff course and a potential MA in Def Studies with relative...Read full review »

Bit underwhelmed with the lack of veterans involved with the shows, too many scholars - aka people who’ve lived privilege lives far from warfare. Seen a few titles mentioning veterans but not till later episodes.

Just Listened to Dean and Mick discuss morality in war. Great podcast and complements the work currently being done across Army to highlight ethical conduct. 5 stars!

First time I’ve taken the time to actually listen to an officer and it hasn’t turned out too badly. May give it another go during the next O group.

I’ve been a fan of this podcast for a while. I’ve bought and read at least two books based off of interviews he’s done; “Legion vs Phalanx,” and “Strategy Strikes Back.” If you’re interested in strategy, military history, doctrine, planning, or dare I say it, Clausewitz, you really need to...Read full review »

I got into this after seeing it mentioned in an article on The Forge. Great guests covering great topics replete with very dry and very bland self deprecating humour, what could be better?

Now that the sound issue has been fixed, I can’t find a single bad thing to say about this podcast (other than the fact that it’s hosted by an Aussie, duh). Great guests, great topics, great humour. I strongly recommend it to anyone interested in the study of warfare.

While I am late to subscribing (& thus playing catch up), through 33 episodes, Mick’s podcast is outstanding! The ideas, frameworks & assumptions presented here are in-line with “Big Carl”’s work itself-not what to think or a checklist, but how to think. Always educational, always...Read full review »

Required listening for those interested in all things war and strategy related. Many of the things covered in this podcast is what is taught in master degree programs in this field. Highly recommend you listen first before you increase that HECS or college loan debt.
