“Depending on the topic / day it ranges from very interesting to annoying. I think if they cut down to maybe one or two episodes per week they could cut out most of the filler ones.”
“Request an episode on THE BIG FIX
I heard Steve Paikin's interview on TV Ontario and would love to hear Globe and Mail's business section take
Rebecca Hagey”Read full review »

“I want to like this podcast more than I do; while the topics chosen and generally interesting, the host doesn’t make much of it or the guests; any questions asked are superficial and extremely safe. It really doesn’t drive the conversation.”
“I enjoy the podcasts that I choose to listen to. The further insight into the topic, by the guest, is usually factual and not sensationalized and gives me a better understanding of the issues. Thanks for keeping me informed.”
“We’re well aware of the scam that living in Canada has now become. It’s pretty obvious by now how the scam works. Its obvious who benefits from it. And it’s obvious why it persists.”
“This show is not accurately informative and doesn’t have much to offer anyone. Get it together, please.
And for god’s sake if you want the Decibel and the Globe and Mail in general to succeed, find a less tone deaf host than Manika or stop doing her so dirty in the scripts that are written for...”Read full review »

“Really weak questions being asked by the host. Very superficial level of reporting.
If you like being spoon fed a narrative this is the podcast for you.”

“I listen to selected episodes because I am genuinely interested in learning more about the topic. I have found this to be hit and miss with this podcast, but the journalistic quality is poor and getting progressively worse, sometimes striking me lately as propaganda. I believe objective...”Read full review »
“Most episodes are quite interesting, but on contentious issues exhibit bias by omission, and also little to no pushback on guests, who are able to tick off their talking points without challenge.”
“I am an avid news junkie and even subscribe to the Globe. I want to like this podcast - I really do. I think it has the potential to be so much better. The interviews sound scripted and unnatural, with poor context setting for the listeners. The episode about a recent Canadian play about Israel...”Read full review »
“This podcast needs to contact me. I contacted the Canadian Mounties. They were not concerned about proof I have concerning an Ivy League professor & his mainland Chinese wife--from an elite academic family, & in an unconcerned manner, suggested I call the Toronto detective department. ...”Read full review »

“You will learn nothing. Some people will take about some old issue for 20 minutes with no substance or new information. I suppose you could use this podcast as boring voices to help you sleep”

“A decent daily news podcast, but the host is ineffective and boring. I’d be happy to just have the guests/reporters talk because the host here serves no purpose.”
“Dr. Nutter is an apt name for someone claiming that there’s no link between obesity and bad health outcomes.
(Btw I checked and Dr Nutter is, perhaps unsurprisingly, *not* a medical doctor)”
“… but I’m sensitive to the occasional halting up-speak, uncertain ruminations, and unnaturally down-pitched voices of guests, though. Otherwise, keep up the good work, Menaka.”
“The bias is glaring, much like the printed version. This has sadly become a shill forConservatives. CPC pushes crap because he knows US owned media will prop him up. Why would PP do the work when he doesn’t have to. Stay out of politics, stick to general topics because you are incapable of...”Read full review »
“I like this podcast but I find it appalling that they ignored the Nova Scotia wildfires. It is supposed to be about Canadian issues but I guess Atlantic Canada is not important enough. Cancelling my subscription.”

“Tries ti cover some of tge basics, but not hood for in depth info. Eg why there won’t be a public inquiry re: Chinese interference. Incorrect or misleading at best . Johnson dies not determine this, it is up to the Gov in power. Yes, he has said he doesn’t believe one is needed, he doesn’t even...”Read full review »

“If you know anything nuanced about the subject matter then you realize this is completely biased. The shunning/condescending tone and language is completely unnecessary. Encourages division.”

“I was never able to understand news or be gripped by it, but Menaka is so welcoming and breaks things down to an audience that can have complete beginners. I feel so educated from listening to this podcast, and the topics are never repetitive. I feel like a better citizen because of The Decibel!”

“The jokey, faux conspiratorial tone in the April 17 story about Chinese influence was completely inappropriate to such a serious state of affairs. Just tell us what happened; don’t try so hard to entertain.”

“Outrage and frustration is no substitute for facts, conclusions, and balanced opinions.
This does not enlighten the listener to the specific problems of data security in Indigo or generally. What do we know, how did this breach happen, and what can individuals and companies do to protect...”Read full review »
“Good newspaper but middling podcast. The tone is mostly naive business section and one-sided op ed page. Not a lot of incisive information to be found here.”
“Really enjoyed the episode today about the psychology of masking - important conversation about keeping one another safe, and how policy and public health can empower people to make our own risk assessments”
“Today another episode in a long line of G&M covid coverage about people still being too dumb to know what’s good for their health and what experts can do to help - more of a fact sheet than hard hitting journalism or analysis.”
“I don’t usually listen to the decibel, but todays episode on masking and the behavioural science behind it was incredibly instructive. I have been feeling a lack of education about where things stand on public health and if we should be masking again heading into the winter.
I especially liked...”Read full review »

“Informative. Good insight from guests. The issue that holds it back is that, every discussion comes across totally scripted. Very little seems like genuine dialogue. All questions are (if not offered in advance) obvious and so every guest has a canned answer.”
“I want to say that I have noticed a drastic improvement in this podcast over the last few years. Initially it was extremely unpolished and a big gap between an NPR or WSJ podcast. However over time this team has really worked hard to make a good product. The guest are good and I like the unbiased...”Read full review »
