My cringing Canadian heart
In today’s episode of the Decibel called Stress Test, the last guest speaker continuously referred to Gen ‘Zee’ instead of using the Canadian pronunciation of Gen ‘Zed’. It was great that the host tried correcting her once, but it didn’t stick. My Canadian heart just kept cringing every time she spoke about the generations. It was very distracting and made me think she did not really know what she was taking about. I know this is an unfair assumption, but it still happened. I’m not sure when Canadian kids stopped being taught correctly how to speak, but I know it’s happening right now with my own 12 year old daughter’s classes. Unfortunately I’m not hopeful this Americanization of the Canadian language will be reversed in the future. It’s just such a shame. - Glenn

More reviews of The Decibel
I find this podcast to be similar to Front Burnet and the Big Story and they’re all well done. The Globe writer on July 29th episode about the No Fun Olympics had some strangely specific and odd opinions. Next time I’d try someone else as a guest from the games.

Really enjoying the show so far.

I’m a regular listener of other Canadian daily news podcasts. It’s great to have another option and I enjoy the Globe’s experts/expertise. I know you’re just getting started, but where is the episode description? Content, context and interviewee information is critical to my choice in listening.
