My cringing Canadian heart
In today’s episode of the Decibel called Stress Test, the last guest speaker continuously referred to Gen ‘Zee’ instead of using the Canadian pronunciation of Gen ‘Zed’. It was great that the host tried correcting her once, but it didn’t stick. My Canadian heart just kept cringing every time she spoke about the generations. It was very distracting and made me think she did not really know what she was taking about. I know this is an unfair assumption, but it still happened. I’m not sure when Canadian kids stopped being taught correctly how to speak, but I know it’s happening right now with my own 12 year old daughter’s classes. Unfortunately I’m not hopeful this Americanization of the Canadian language will be reversed in the future. It’s just such a shame. - Glenn

Great work on this story - so happy to hear today that pressure on our government has made a difference and that hopefully we will be seeing some of these allies as new immigrants with their families soon
