“I agree with prior reviews that I often found these interviewers to be uncomfortable with silence—jumping in to interrupt or interject, sometimes even after asking the guest to "talk more about that." Conversations pause rather than grow once the topic nears its deepest and most interesting points. I might respectfully suggest they listen to a few episodes of On Being, and learn from Krista Tippett's mastery of this art form.
On another note, while a little quiet could help this podcast dive into more substance, so too could more diversity (including gender, race, marital status, and so on, yes, but also maybe people who disagree with the idea the church should be deconstructed). Perhaps it's the interviewers own affinity bias—white dudes interviewing white dudes with similar outlooks on how the American Christian church might be deconstructed. Creating a new club unintentionally in place of the old one: Eh. At one point in Ep 2 someone said if you don't agree "This isn't the place for you" then backtracked. But (for now at least) it seemed more revealing than not.”Read full review »
