An education embedded in a fascinating conversation.
There's something to be said for this podcast taking complex topics concerning the Asia-Pacific, distilling it down to what truly matters- while conversationally peppering the education with fascinating nuance. I'm a college student that cares about foreign policy, but I didn't know where to start when it came to Asia. This podcast does a fantastic job of giving you current events in bite-size chunks (usually not much longer than a sitcom episode). During a late night study session, I felt like I wasn't grasping US-China relations. After searching for podcasts on that very topic, I found The Diplomat's Asia Geopolitics podcast. Immediately, I subscribed and listened to the most recent episode. The moment I finished with their newest entry (this one on how North Korea has the potential to shape US-China relations during the Trump Administration), I downloaded the next...and another after that. Within a few hours I felt like I had a base understanding of the region (for an American college student, anyway), but more importantly- Ankit, Shannon, and the rest of the voices on the Diplomat gave me the tools to understand how to interpret the way world events impact myself and others at home. I know, this review reads as borderline over the top... but trust yourself enough to try one episode. The podcast can make you feel as though you've stumbled onto a private conversation between foreign policy wonks. There is a sense that you're learning information that not all people have access to. I think that's what's so great about this podcast. The Diplomat doesn't talk down to you. You're invited to take a seat at the table, and listen in on the current goings on in the region. I'll be taking my seat regularly from here on out.Read full review »

Superb, insightful review of current events through a lens of mid-range issues across Asia/globally; sometimes with guests, otherwise between editors and experts.
