“Great storytellers (and hosts) can take something you have little interest in (like, say, monetary policy) and make it VERY entertaining. By the same token, mediocre storytellers (or hosts) can take something you LOVE (like Disneyland) and make it almost intolerable. Look, I listen to a LOT of podcasts, and the unfortunate reality is that this show just isn't very good. It's a shame, too, because southern California is theme park lover's paradise...a gold mine of source material for potentially endless shows.
To be fair, I have listened (or tried to listen) to dozens of shows. What keeps me hitting the delete button before the show is even half over usually comes down to these few pain points:
1. Too much time wasted in the beginning doing introductions. Take a lesson from the WDW Edition of DIS Unplugged. Pete introduces everyone quickly and then gets right to business.
2. Poor audio quality. I realize that it's basically a conference call show, but there are ways to improve the audio and make it seem like everyone is in the same room.
3. Too much needless laughing. Way too much. It gets really old really fast. When the WDW team has a good laugh, it's because someone said something really funny and everyone is in on the joke. And it doesn't happen that often. It seems like the DL crew has a lot of inside jokes and constantly laugh with each other...and it's annoying to the listener.
4. No clear show lead or format. Is it Tony? Tom? Michael? Who's in charge and driving the show? I get lost half the time. The format is not adhered to very well. Too much wasted time.
5. Uninterested and unprepared. I love just about everything Disneyland-related, but the way the stories are presented is very dry and (for lack of a better word) uninteresting. The hosts seem unprepared and present the stories half-heartedly a lot of times. If you are going to talk about restaurants, marathons and meet & greets, at least try to find a unique angle to present to the listener. This might be mundane for them, but it's not for most people. In contrast, I was instantly hooked on the WDW edition of the DIS Unplugged the first time I listened. It contained a restaurant review (and I'm nothing even close to a foodie) and a Pete rant.
6. It's okay to be opinionated. Don't always try to be the good guy. A show full of good guys is boring. The hosts of the WDW Edition of the DIS Unplugged are opinionated (and I love that), but the DL crew seems like they are holding back.
Simply put, I believe they can do better. Until then, I am still searching for a great (and consistent) Disneyland Podcast.”Read full review »

“For someone who hasn’t been to Disneyland and only have been to Walt Disney World (me) I found out that this podcast is helpful and enjoyable. Tom, Mary Jo, Michael, and Tyler are my favorite people from the team; Nancy is good, and Tony is just okay. I only listen to the segments that sounds...”Read full review »
