Hard to get anything tangible out of this
I listedn to two of his episodes (three if you include the one he did with Sam Harris). It's hard for me to put my finger on it, but I just don't get anything memorable. The topics are good and he and his guests are certainly bright enough but the shows seemed largely fact free. Lots of personal anecdotes, opinions, lengthy discussions on the obvious and the occasional "science tells us" but without any real backing. It's disappointing because his show with Harris was filled with good, new ideas and support for those ideas. It takes a while to find your stride on these things, so I'll listen to a couple more at least. So, for what it's worth, one small bit of advice is to occasionally provide some data. Saying "science says" without saying something about why you think science says it, is what everybody does now.Read full review »

More reviews of The Dishcast with Andrew Sullivan
