Laughing Listener
I found this podcast because I searched for “Catcher in the Rye,” one of my favorite books. Not surprisingly, not many podcasts out there on that book. Drunk Guys BC’s first episode, though, is about that book and they hate one of my favorite books! But I found their take refreshing, supported, thoughtful, and reasoned. I still love the book and the protagonist, but I realized for my very personal reasons. I keep listening because the podcast is hilarious, though. I was a Lit major in college, and it’s cool to hear non-academic conversations on classic lit. The conversation is hilarious and crass and also intelligent. Also, I almost did my senior thesis on Hemingway and the DGBC guys hate Hemingway, and you know what, it made me consider that I like certain books and authors for very academic reasons. This podcast has gotten me to expand my literary and my beer horizons. You’ll actually learn a lot about ales, lagers, breweries, etc. If you want to really laugh, listen to the Grapes of Wrath episode (seriously) and the 50 Shades of Grey episode to get a feel.

Nate and Mike are really excellent at giving the historical context behind the books, and the beer! The jokes keep getting better too.
