Things you never learned in school
I came to this podcast from the Chernobyl episode on Strange Matters. I was struck by the co-host’s sense of humour, localised knowledge of this topic, and his manner of presenting. I’ve now caught up on The Eastern Border and enjoy the humour, the stories of real people, the history behind the Cold War and Soviet Union, and many other tidbits (like the Armenian Radio jokes) delivered along the way. As a history and humanities teacher (from America), I tell students daily that they must look at life (and history) from many different perspectives. You won’t be disappointed with this podcast - it’s got all the parts you need to make it informative, entertaining, and right to the point. The host’s emotions are evident as he discusses the difficult parts of history - Chernobyl angers you and makes you sad in turns. This is the history I didn’t learn, and this is the history we should learn if we want to understand the tension in the same region right now. Trust me, it’s easy to forgive him for any mistakes in English because it’s not like we’d be able to give a podcast on American history in Latvian. Major props to you for taking on this project!
