“If you've taken the time to listen to Dan Carlin's "Ghosts of the Ostfront" series about the Nazi invasion of Russia during WWII then you should definitely take the time to listen to Kristaps Anderjsons rendition of "The Eastern Border". Kristaps takes over where Dan Carlin left off. Where Dan gave us the description of the monster that was the USSR during WWI, Kristaps pulls back the mask, revealing the clown that a compination of politics and desperation turned that monster into over the following 30 years.
If you're interested in hearing "the rest of the story" and find yourself facinated by tales of pilots driving planes 300 miles over roads to pick up vodka (because they didn't want to be caught in the sky) or new soldiers using flame throwers to cut through anchor chains on master class battleships to spite superiors then you own it to yourself to download an episode and give Kristaps's "The Eastern Border" a try. If you love history you won't regret it!

“Love this podcast. It gives a very human perspective on how and why things were in ussr without getting political. The Armenian radio jokes are a welcome delight!”

“A peak behind the Iron Curtain, Kristaps gives us an often hilarious but always deeply felt history of Latvia and the USSR. A people's history of the USSR as it was lived.”Read full review »
