This CIA conspiracy theory has been discredited by many including Paul Kelly. Even Gough didn’t buy it as a credible theory. He was visited by US deputy Secretary of State Warren Christopher who assured him the US government would never again interfere in domestic politics but that is not conclusive of CIA involvement.
The Dismissal was just Kerr seeking to insert himself into a political crisis that he should have kept out of.”
