“I’ve resisted podcasts for a long time. Why would I want to hear people talking when I could be listening to new music? While I’m still a devoted lover of new music, there’ve also been some recent podcasts that have grabbed my attention. The first was ‘Inside The Big Day Out’, a retrospective on the iconic Australian music festival hosted by Gemma Pike. Next was ‘Coronacast’, a daily podcast hosted by Dr Norman Swan and Tegan Taylor answering listeners questions about the Coronavirus and relaying the latest pieces of research. The one that has my heart, mind and soul captivated now is ‘The Eleventh’. It’s engaged me so much that I’ve felt the compulsion to write about it here. The podcast follows the trials and tribulations of the Whitlam Government and what followed. It gives a rare insight into never before released documents and stories featuring a swathe of special guests from Junie Morosi to John Howard. Alex Mann makes history come alive with this well-researched, fascinating and inspired podcast that will leave you questioning all you know about this turbulent and devastating but undeniably exciting period of Australian political history.”
