I like Mike Giardi. I do. In terms of this podcast-- I think he's a great moderator. His x and o's are pretty flawless (and I'm an x and o's guy too.) He has a good rapport with Mayo and Koeppen. When these three are good, I think this podcast is required listening. Shout out to the excellent production and hilarity of Adam too. My one critique of Mike is this: He's too hard headed. He stays with his stances to the bitter end. His objectivity suffers even though he can't see it (because of his hard headedness.) Objectivity is probably impossible, especially when working with people (very cool people at that.) But Mike doesn't get to the point where his reporting doesn't even masquerades as objectivity. He's too close to the Malcolm story. That would be okay if he told us exactly what he knew and why he believes like he does. But his mind is already made up and anything that happens in the story he sees it as a confirmation of his opinion. I have no idea what Malcolm Butler is going to do. But I'll be goddamned if I don't try and generate discussion as opposed to imposing my opinion. The thing that bothers me the most though is, you can't tell him that. He can't question himself. I'm not a psychologist but I think he lacks humility. He's like a player who doesn't feel he gets the respect he deserves. I guess that's a good thing too. It's obvious you've spoken to Malcolm or his camp at the beginning of this. It's obvious you two have a relationship. But you've inserted yourself into this story, and you can't seem to look at it from anywhere but inside it. That would be okay if you were an agent, not a reporter trying to get information to the fans. Mayo has a personality for the ages. When he's there and he's engaged-- the guy seems meant for the media. I worry about him just a bit because he is so genuine and truthful that I hope he doesn't get into trouble. But the guy's personality is unbelievable. It's generational. One of the most infectious I've seen in NFL coverage. He treats his listeners like equals, he explains difficult things simply. He really seems like an incredible guy. No wonder Bill always hinted at that. I mean, Adam. All four of you know this podcast is unbelievable when it is firing on all cylinders. Again, it could be required listening. Mayo and Koep though seem to be figuring out how committed they are to the media side of things. That's understandable, they're in the first five years of their new careers. The future of this podcast depends on that. I'd just like to let both of them know though that this could be a nice source of income if they both put in like 10-12 episodes in a row. Listen to me! I'm a fan, I'm the target market. I'm giving you the view from the ground. If you build it, they will come. Having said all that, I think the podcast could work with Mike and Adam alone. Two great personalities. You'd have to change the name though. If Mike reads this... please don't take what I said personally. But also don't think I'm a troll or not as versed in 'logic' and 'knowledge' as you. It's possible for mistakes we make to go without our noticing them. Sincerely, John Branswell (Canadian Pats Fan)Read full review »
