“I have learnt more history from this podcast series than any other source I can think of in recent years. What an absolute treat to be able to line up these thorough and entertaining stories for listening to during a long drive or doing whatever work that allows you to concentrate on what you´re hearing. If you browse TV series or documentary films by comparison, good luck finding these subjects so well covered and so systematically. The tone of these podcasts is light, but not trivial (which is what happened to Nat Geo after the Murdochs bought it!) and it´s factual and thorough without sounding academic. I´d be willing to pay for this content; I´ve returned to this podcast series - and finished listening through everything - after failing to find anyting better under brand names such as Discovery, NatGeo, BBC, etc. Who´d sell episodes for near on USD3 each, mind you. So on a list of the Best of the Internet, I´d put a resource like this on the top ten list of why I´m glad we´ve got network access everywhere. A great thanks to the author. Someone should donate a pile of money both to ensure the work keeps coming, and to help take some of these things into documentary film making. I mean - who covered Magellan, Columbus and Zheng He like this?? THANK YOU! One day I hope to hear your treatment of additional explorers that are poorly known in the west - say Ibn Battuta and other explorers that help put the often-told stories of European exploration in perspective — which the Zheng He episodes definitely did!”
