As we once more witness a democracy, the USA, imperiled and overcome by plutocracy, as happened in Rome, the eventual demise of Rome has a lot to tell us about our possible undemocratic future ... and just maybe, how to avoid that outcome. Patrick's examination of the fall of Rome is a good basis for evaluating current events, what they portend, and what can and should be done about it. Bravo!Read full review »

This succeeds in being accessible while still credible. That's more rare for popular history than it really should be. The presentation is well paced and enjoyable.Read full review »

Pat does a great podcast! I enjoy the fictional characters that add real time, human context to a story that's often overviewed by emperors, politicians etc. Pat is also eager to answer any of my random Q's about the subjects of Rome & antiquity on Twitter!Read full review »
