Sara Longwell is a voice of decency and hope in the face of despair
The American democracy is clearly doomed if events continue as they seem destined to play out—it is almost impossible to bear the thought— and as this experiment in government of, by, and for the people crashes and burns, the few of us in our benighted country who are neither cheering it on, or perversely, with eyes tight shut and fingers deep into ears, pretending it’s not happening and if we turn it over to the bad guys maybe it wont be so bad—we need the kind of truly decent, intelligent, and courageous reality-facing yet still humane people like Sarah Longwell who never cease, who never spare effort to find, hope against hope, some chance or way not to fall into the abyss all republics have eventually vanished into. If there is a chance, it will be the Sarahs who find it, not the cheerleaders or the doom despondent paralyzed like me, and who will lead us through the eye of the needle to the other side. Pay attention to her. She and her ilk are our only hope. She will not lie to you and will show you what she finds. Her podcast will not sugar coat the reality but she will never twist it to her preferred truth. We are all travellers locked into a slim aluminum tube, flying through the air, engines on fire and the passengers screaming and panicking and demanding that the flight attendants break onto the cockpit to shoot the pilot— and Sarah remains rational, refusing to despair, saying try this thing, if that doesn't work figure out why, so we can try the next thing, don't fool yourself, but always always keep trying. Keep trying, keep trying, keep trying. And if we do at last wind up piling into the ground, no regrets because you did your best. And never, even in the last half second before impact, never stop loving your fellow passengers, because the are human beings. They matter, even if they are crazy and stupid and perverse and even vicious, even if it turns out their failings killed us all. Love them anyway. Really love them. Why perish with anger? Die with love. Who said things like this? Hmmm. Something comes almost to mind. Someone in Palestine. Long time ago. Roman Empire? It will come to me… on the tip of my tongue… That is Sarah Longwell. We should all try to be like her. Subscribe. Listen to her. Maybe it could work out…Read full review »

This podcast does a great job of looking deeper into the American political psyche via the mechanism of focus groups. Great discussion of statements from actual focus groups. Would definitely recommend!
