Brilliant - except!!
This is a well-written and researched podcast series that I’m sure true crime fans will enjoy. It displays empathy for the victims, which is heartening. I couldn’t fault it — until episode 10 when it talks about trans identities at length in a clumsy and harmful way. The producers should have done training on trans inclusive language and identity, and consulted an expert to give nuance. They only featured interviews with cis people and perpetrated harmful stereotypes about trans women such as for not being feminine enough, lying and manipulating etc. It’s clear they don’t even know how to use basic language around trans identities, eg ‘identifies as a woman’ rather than ‘wants to become a woman.’ These critiques of mine are not so much about the person featured here, but because perpetuating these reductive stereotypes puts actual trans women at further risk of violence and murder. Do better, Casefile Presents and Vikki Petraitis.

More reviews of The Frankston Murders
I got through most of the first episode, but there was an extended, gratuitous description of very graphic violence toward animals, and I finally had to stop. It just went on and on. I’ve never stopped listening to a podcast for violence, but this was too much for me.

Don’t understand why you had to tiptoe around his autogynephillia and how HE wants to be addressed! He killed 3 women, he doesn’t get to choose! Apart from that- great podcast!
