After Show: Sex on the first date & Jo Hirst on her book The Gender Fairy
Listen now
Description
In this week's After Show we discuss heteronormative sex on the first date standards, or in Tom’s case, sex before the first date (first published September 14, 2019). We then interview author Jo Hirst. Inspired by her own experiences as a mother to a transgender child, Jo Hirst wrote The Gender Fairy in 2015, a children's book that was ultimately used as political fodder both during the Safe Schools debate and the marriage equality postal survey in Australia. Jo reflects on how the political right demonised her work, her childhood in a household without strict gender roles, and the importance of transgender children seeing themselves represented in literature (first published October 19, 2019). The Gays Are Revolting went on an indefinite hiatus in August 2020.
