Rob Ford is... a complicated individual
As a Toronto outsider looking in, the Rob Ford saga was genuinely hilarious, disgraceful and embarrassing. I’m not sure if we should praise the man for figuring out a way to weaponize populism to get elected or to admonish the people who actually voted for him being completely ambivalent towards his flaws and complete lack of professionalism and qualifications for running a city the size of Toronto. If the populist movement has taught us anything, it’s that’s these populist leaders are completely vindictive, have no qualms of crushing the people (their perceived enemies?) under their thumbs while they profit all the way to the bank all espousing the message that they are for the people... thumbs up from Stalin, reap what you sow I guess. Anyways, the podcast does a good job of breaking down who Rob Ford was, tho maybe it went a little soft on him at the end, painting him as a sort of tragic figure taken over by his demons. Despite all the stories of Rob’s drunken rages and absolute idiocy, I’ll be honest that I started to feel a twinge of sympathy for the man but at the end of the day, Rob has to be held accountable for the choices he made, whether he’s with us or not. I wish the podcast crew delved a bit deeper into the institutions that were keeping Rob in power when he was clearly unfit for the job and in a health crisis to boot. They could have also investigated a bit more into the factors that allowed a “Rob Ford” type to be elevated to a prominent political post, but did make a note that during Rob’s time as city councilor, he likely spent more time speaking to constituents in other wards, and missing from city hall, building a base that way... despite the fact that whatever those people were calling and complaining about, Rob didn’t actually solve anything. I think Joe Mihevc sums it up nicely that future generations will likely look at these present days as supremely destructive times.

This is a fine podcast but the narrator seems to pause after every second word. He emphasizes everything. Its irritating. Otherwise, its fine.

Good podcast covering the steps that led up to Rob Ford entering politics till the end. I remember waking up mornings to see the Ford’s nights insanity, feeling incredulity that no one had any want or power to stop it. Toronto was a catalyst to the Trump era. Extremely flawed mediocre men...Read full review »

The content is great and the quality is fantastic. However, the narrator.... can’t seem to... be able to... day more than.... four words at......... one time. I get you are going for emphasis and dramatic time but when you do it every single sentence, it drags and loses the effect. It’s not...Read full review »
