An Essential RPG Podcast: Listening Should Be Mandatory
The GROGNARD Files is, quite simply, the best RPG podcast available. Presented by the amiable Dirk The Dice and his equally amiable co-host Judge Blythy, this podcast casts an eye over RPGs from their very earliest days through to the modern day. Each show is themed, and draws from the hosts' own experiences playing the systems "back-in-the-day" and is presented in round-table format : conversational, witty, warm and honest. There is a great deal of nostalgia in the show - which is unsurprising as the hosts love of the hobby is deep and long-standing - but there is plenty for everyone here as they offer great insight on modern games like Night's Black Agents and 5e D&D. It's a great resource for folks coming from a purely modern RPG background and wondering "How did we get here, then?" The absolute best thing about the show is its charm. It's very funny, very welcoming and very British. It has in-jokes, the hosts' "origins story" and slots for regular musings such as the White Dwarf section courtesy of the Daily Dwarf. This really adds to the show when you become a repeat listener. This is an exceptional and exquisite podcast.Read full review »

This is a wonderful and thoughtful podcast. No attempts at goofy humour or foul-mouthed jokes, just honest-to-goodness analysis of games from a bygone era. Dirk and Judge Blythy talk about games that I only wished to have as a younger person. I love the "comfortable" sound of the...Read full review »
