That ol' mid-life crisis...
If you are of a certain age, and of a certain vintage when it comes to role-playing games (note to younglings - that's role-playing games without yelling "YOU BLOODY KILLSTEALER!" at the computer screen every five minutes or so), then this rambling podcast is definitely for you. Having started down the RPG route in the late 70s, I recognise many of the trials and tribulations of the Armchair Adventurers - trying to find games and gamers in the UK, and hoping to heck they had the mindset that wouldn't have you throttling them as they dribbled comedic nonsense over your carefully mapped and plotted campaign. The podcast is of a certain amiable style that appeals to us vintage gamers, from that halcyon age when orks weren't spiky, rulebooks had more words than pictures, and those funny shaped dice (when you could find them...) cost more than the miniatures you moved down dungeon corridors drawn in dry marker on the back of your mum's least favourite kitchen tray. If you remember White Dwarf when you could easily determine articles from advertisements for aforementioned spiky orcs and their ilk, this podcast is definitely for you.Read full review »

I like the focused nature of this podcast. There’s a minimum of banter and digressions into personal lives, which I prefer. I also like how it doesn’t have lots of jarring music and sound effects. Dirk’s soothing voice is perfect for the podcast format. Judge Blithey is also easy to listen to.

As a fellow Lancastrian who lived through the 80s in a tiny group of RPG fanatics this podcast feels like I am reminiscing with my old chums about games we used to play. All, of course, revolving around the montly tome of all things gaming, White Dwarf. I even went on to work for GW for a bit...Read full review »
