Chinese history in a manageable format
This is a great series. It is well researched and it's in English! Listeners aren't buried by incomprehensible names and places (with a topping of dates). The information is there, it is just in manageable bites for those who do not speak Mandarin. (Thankfully, the host is fluent in Mandarin; listening is much more enjoyable when the 'incomprehensible' is properly pronounced!) Romanized names and a wealth of references are included in podcast notes with even more information, maps, and photos are on the associated website. China's wealth of myths and superstitions are appropriately included in its history. The nation's mythical beginnings (complete with dragons and magic mud) are included in the first podcast. Then Chris proceeds through China's labyrinthine history with a winning mixture of wit and fact. A sprinkling of global contemporary events provide reference points for listeners more familiar with European history. Despite the comments,THoC sound quality is on par with other iTunes podcasts. Those who demand studio audio quality should limit their searches to professional - and paid - broadcasts. In short, this podcast is the painlessly pleasant way to learn 5000 years of Chinese history without losing your mind. PS. The revised episode numbering system will make learning even easier.Read full review »

More reviews of The History of China
I cam across one of this chaps posts on Reddit. His writing style grabbed me and his speaking style lives up to that. So far, so damn good.

Informative without being overbearing. Definite recommendation for anyone who is interested in parts of Chinese history. Currently towards the end of the Han dynasty now, so round 200CE.

This is an absolutely superb podcast. My knowledge of ancient chinese history was terrible before I began listening, so every episode brings a wealth of new information. This has more than earned its place as one of my top three favorite podcasts.
