What an absolutely incredible podcast. Every episode is well researched, scripted and engaging for the listener. I heavily binged this show during lockdown, and reignited my love for Irish history. Keep up the great work Kevin, and thanks for sharing these masterpieces with us!

There are a lot of garbage podcasts out there, this one is, so far, excellent. They are well researched, the host is both knowledgeable and insightful. I wish the episodes were longer, 45 minutes is a better length for me, especially when driving.

Very useful, insightful, and accessible. But why the random swearing? Does it add anything to the narrative?

I’m new to the podcast. Already 24 episodes in after 4 days listening. It’s set out in bite sized sections, so is easy to follow but also does a real deep dive into the war of independence. Very much enjoying it!

I am a history lover, and this is hands down the best history podcast I’ve listened, Irish of otherwise, and I’ve listened to many. I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

My family started listening when visiting Ireland this summer on the long drive from Dingle to Dublin. We became obsessed. You would think that a blow by blow description of British-Irish negotiations would be tortuous, however Kevin makes the events and personalities come alive. I eagerly...Read full review »

Interesting, informative, engaging! I came late to this, when it already had over 60 episodes, but changed the settings so it played “oldest to newest” and was able to hear it in chronological order. Binge-listened while walking the dog or cooking. Short episodes, just enough to absorb each time.

Definitely do have a listen. The quick episodes are easy to digest and shed light on varying perspectives of Irish history.

Enjoyed this at the start and now it’s gotten completely useless. Narrator doesn’t seem to care anymore and is so unbelievably anti IRA & pro Britain it would put any proper Irishman off. There are plenty other actual Irish podcasts out there who understand the struggles of the Irish people...Read full review »

Spanning over 100 years, taking in scholarly literature, folklore and some just plain funny stories, this is a complex history brilliantly told. The episodes are perfectly timed, and segment what can seem an overwhelmingly complex history to understand. Links to interesting material on a Facebook...Read full review »

Interesting podcast and some very in depth sourcing and lesser known stories . Should be titled the History of Irish Revolution As we are 56 episodes into the revolutionary period and can't remember an episode not about this period .Read full review »

Delivery is brilliant. A dark period, made darker by the lack of objectivity by historians who are often steered by their own political and national leanings. This podcast is so different and is essential to anyone who wants to understand Ireland and what it is today.

Having recently sent off my documents for registration on the Foreign Births Register as an Irish citizen, it occurred to me that I knew very little about the history of Ireland. Searching around for podcasts to try and fill this shameful knowledge gap of my ancestral heritage, I came across ...Read full review »

Delighted to come across this podcast. It is a highly addictive listen. Kevin has a great way about him to tell a story in a way I would imagine a wise old seanchaí telling eager listeners around a fire in the olden times. I like the way the stories are told in small snip-its and with a passion...Read full review »

Wonderful bite-sized history that is so easy to digest on the move. The delivery by Kevin Dolan is riveting, unbiased and considering how dark this period of Irish history can be, his odd injection of light humour is appropriate and welcome. Thank you for producing such a compelling podcast. I am...Read full review »

I just found this podcast a couple of weeks ago. And all I can say is wow! Kevin has a wonderful voice and great comic timing. This is such as serious topic that comic relief is needed and he provides it. I usually listen to three or four episodes together since they are about 15 minutes each...Read full review »

It’s a History of the formation of modern Ireland and its great. It’s in short digestible episodes. Oddly enough, I’ve since come to learn that de Valera met my forbears in his trip to the US and that his visit was viewed as a strange novelty event.
