This is quite simply the best book I have ever read and heard. I am just working my way through the podcast for what is now I think the sixth time. I first listened probably ten years ago and have come back to it so many times. The story and the characters are exceptional and it grips me...Read full review »

I listen to this book just after the Author First Wrote it many years ago. It is every bit as good as I remember it this time around.

I generally give audiobooks a 3 chapter go/no go, and almost closed this, but the story grows and grows and grows on you. Actually ‘story’ is not a fully accurate description. The Immortals is a tale of the tragedies, will, and triumphs of the American (human) spirit, and a hope for the future....Read full review »

Set in the near future, the story explores relationships, science, technology and politics that together result in death camps. Touching and pithy, the story tracks the characters in the death camps and presiding military as the tussle between power and escape.

Production values are high. Story on the other hand is a cleverly crafted giant hammer which Hickman repeatedly pounds the listner on the head with.

I loved this story. It was a great social commentary and the author made me really care what happened to the characters. Thank you Tracy Hickman!

Great idea for a story but way way to preachy, obvious religious undertones that I found extremely frustrating. Wish I hadn't stuck it out-

As I spend many hours on the road I tend to listen to lots of audio books prefer them over music However I came upon this book and at first I was not quite sure this was my thing but as the story evolved I found myself totally engrossed in it It is very well written and read I recommend you...Read full review »

The plot occasionally gets a little forced to drive the very thinly disguised allegory (if you can call it that) but on the whole it more or less works. It is the sort of book that, if in paperback, you'd find in a remainder bin or in an airport bookshop - a read to keep you occupied and...Read full review »

Would only download chapters 1-3. Second try to listen to story and not the voices. Just when I started to get into the story the rest of the chapters wouldn't download. Wasted too much time.

Knowing Tracy Hickman as a fantasy writer this was a pleasant surprise. I listen to audio books on my daily commute and found myself praying for delays just to listen a bit more. The subject matter is very current, the characters build beautifully to the point of a real emotional connection to...Read full review »

An excellently written piece of work, dripping with ill-disguised symbolism, prophecy and warning. I would not go as far as saying this is Orwell's 1984, but it does have the same blood running through its veins! Definitely give this podcast a try, you will not be disapointed.Read full review »

Thank you for all of your great work with the world of DragonLance. If I had not fallen in love with the stories and characters for DragonLance I would never have had the interest or courage to explore the topics in the Immortals. I have not enjoyed a story more or become so attached to...Read full review »

This one's a stinker, through and through. The story is marginal, and as others noted the background for each character is ludicously drawn out and insanely boring. Probably half the book is backstory, and the rest is just the author trying to make trying to make their point with all the grace...Read full review »

I didn't have too many expectations going into this podcast, but I have to say that it really resonated with me. The narration and character voices were quite good, but the story it self is extremely poignant and thought-provoking. This should be required reading (or listening) when exploring...Read full review »

Listen to this, you will not regret it. The opening is a bit confusing but all is explained. This has to be one of the best stories I've ever heard. Do yourself a favor and listen to this.

At first you might not get this book, but after a few chapters you get to know the charters. After that you start to root for the charters. I am not so sure I like the ending, however, I am not sure if it could have ended any other way. The story drags on at times and would have been just as good...Read full review »

I appreciate the efforts of every writer and I thank the author for sharing this story. I must say however I found this more of a sermon than a cautionary tale. I perservered until the first (literal) stone was cast then I turned it off in frustration.

Wow
I had passed this book up multiple times based on the art, I then read the reviews and decided to give it a listen. I hated having to stop the book, I was so drawn in. Not great. Hickman is a very talented author, and performs well as a voice for his work. The problem is with the content. Though the story is gripping an you sincerely care about the characters, the treatment is heavy handed. At times Hickman seems more intent on giving detailed descriptions...Read full review »

Don't listen to this if you're expecting another Dragonlance novel. Don't listen this if you are looking for light entertainment. Don't listen to this if your not willing to go on a journey. I "read" the book. It is good, good story telling, good descriptive movement as well. Didn't like the "voices" sometimes, the reverend, vigil, and Michael were good though. Pretty lame book. It is well read, and the audio mix is good, but the story is lacking an intriguing plot and does not leave the listener captivated in the least. This definitely is one of the books where I am glad that I was late for the party, I do not think that I could have endured the suspense of waiting a full week for a new episode! Starting out, I thought the concept of this story was great. From a reader’s perspective, the idea of throwing all sorts of people in a prison camp in some near/distant future seemed both terrible and exciting. However, only a short way into the book I found that it was very agenda driven. ...Read full review »
