Fattymoos Reviews The Important Cinema Club
I thought “Twitch of the Death Nerve Podcast” was the most pretentious listen, but these guys have that crew beat, hands down. I now also know where “Pure Cinema Podcast” plagiarized their name & why Quentin Tarantino has attached himself to PCP, his co-sign is a middle finger for all the constant jabs from these guys. Justin Decloux & Will Sloan assuredly know cinema. The two hosts weave in & out W/ subtitle reviews. One might opine on a film being awful, or an actor/director lacking in talent or execution. Then, about face & claim the subject at hand as one of their personal favorites. It’s hard to get a read on what movies might grace their media shelves. Granted, I am only on episode #31. I like to start from the very beginning. This is a very good Podcast, episode #1 was posted in 2015, so it is interesting hearing their opinions “Pre - Trump”. Albeit, these cats are Canadian, they assuredly make it known the U.S. casts a huge shadow. Podcasts are a great time capsule, before the world was so divisive. The two hosts will tiptoe around being offensive at all costs, unless it’s to berate someone they deem the other, listen to #28, the Steven Seagal episode. This will be an interesting journey to complete & listen to their growth or lack there of. Will Sloan is an accomplished journalist W/ plenty of great reads. If you find the time, look up his personal website. Will is the more weathered movie watcher, W/ an immense knowledge of so many genres. You would surmise he was an 80 year old man, W/ his “get off my lawn” persona & his constant jeers of “BOO” whenever his dogmatic views are challenged. One will never be confused of the hosts genders or race, as it’s touted in almost every episode, as an attempt to preempt any future backlash. I imagine them as wide eyed, manic, blue haired old codgers W/ horn rimmed glasses. Not unlike the old church lady’s from my youth that would exclaim “this is the work of the devil, & I’m not for this, but they have god to answer to”. But this is what I truly find entertaining about podcasts. I get an unfiltered glimpse into the minds of intelligent, talented individuals that wax poetic on the subjects that interest me. Justin Decloux is representative of The Peanut Gallery. He is always laughing, rowdy & constantly soliciting wills affirmation on the topics at hand. He is extremely well versed in all things cinema too. The both of them complement each other well as a duo. I anticipate around episode #150 , they will be announcing their engagement to one another. I am surprised that it has taken me so long to find this Podcast. I have been an avid listener of Podcasts since 2012. Also, searching far & wide for anything cinema related. These guys are no doubt pioneers W/ what they have covered. As mentioned above, Pure Cinema Podcast was what I found first, off the heels of Elric Kane being on Killer P.O.V. Podcast. No doubt Elric has listed to these guys & I can’t believe there’s not a Podcast feud (Ha). Again, I enjoy the podcast very much & keep up the great work guys!!

I enjoy this podcast a lot, particularly for its dives into obscure, overlooked, and just plain weird cinema. By far the most adventurous and rewarding film pod I’ve found.

It's a shame that this pod doesn't have a bigger audience. The banter is friendly, the takes are rarely sizzling, the scope of interest is wide, both of the hosts are intelligent and entertaining, and rarely will an episode go by without a new movie rec or interesting critical tidbit....Read full review »
