Swinging in the Dark: Eve of the June 12 Summit
podcast Swinging in the Dark: Eve of the June 12 Summit as reviewed by grthumongous on June 20. Three very knowledgeable specialists on North East Asia, especially North Korea. Time well spent listening and learning. May I humbly offer some observations: Dr. Sue Mi Terry ought to be afforded "equal-time". For example: The history question "coulda shoulda" first gone to Dr. Terry rather than the gentleman with the gravelly voice who said, paraphrasing, US defended South Korea. I would have liked to hear Dr. Terry's view on that history and any potential parallels to current situation. In my primitive understanding President Truman (a Great President) withdrew c1948 significant US forces from South Korea, Stalin got the A-Bomb in 1949, Dean Acheson gave a 1950-JUN-12 speech that did *not* include South Korea within the United States' "defensive perimeter", and then in 1950-JUN Stalin's Communist Kim_1 invaded South Korea and nearly overran the entire country of South Korea. American forces managed to hold a pocket until a counter-offensive could be mounted. Today, DPRK has nukes, there's talk of a drawdown, etc. Overall, podcasts such as this are a very good way to hear authentic specialists take a deep dive into a complex and crucial topic, and to ask each or respond to each other's analysis. To reiterate, I think Dr. Terry ought to be granted equal time on this podcast so my rating is Four Stars. I know we can't compare TV-land to podcasts (apples and oranges) but I watched ABCNews This Week with ____ and that host only put 2 narrow questions to Dr. Terry for a total of 75seconds of TV airtime----on a 44minute "Sunday morning TV 'news' Show".Read full review »

More reviews of The Impossible State
This show excels at covering the DPRK with expert analysis; it also excels at covering the ROK as the two relate. That might seem to be a foregone conclusion given the subject matter, yet it warrants acknowledgment in the case of this show. Indispensable information and analysis; just top notch.

Great to hear directly from the CSIS experts, who have all been in the room at the table with North Koreans in the past, as we enter a new era of diplomacy with the Impossible State. Will this time really be different? As talks unfold, the people on this podcast will be able to tell us yes or no.
