EP230: Recovering from Rape
Listen now
Description
On the heels of the scandals and the #MeToo movement that made it to the news, influential and powerful women all around the world are raising awareness on this malaise. They are determined to end all the injustices experienced by women in any industry, all across the world.   This week’s guest is a powerful and influential woman. Victoria Smith has been one of the show's guests a few weeks ago and she's back to get vulnerable and explore a relevant and controversial topic. Victoria, a.k.a. the Tantric Witch, is a somatic sexual healer who helps men and women with their relationship and sexual issues. But prior to this, Victoria had to heal herself as she’s gone through the horrible experience of being raped.   She joins me on this episode of the Intimate Lifestyle to share her experience, the path towards recovery and using it to empower herself and help others.   Our conversation spanned various subjects including:   The topic of rape and how Victoria tries to steer away from preaching when teaching people on how to handle it. (04:56) Her experience with rape, the ways these affected her, and what she recommends to deal with these (05:54) Why she no longer sees herself as or feels like a victim. (14:00) Using our most horrible and uncomfortable experiences to pave the way towards empowerment. (19:40) How every woman is a victim of sexual assault in some form and the humiliation involved in it. (24:58) The stories behind our experiences with rape, anger, predator-prey dynamics, and rape fantasies. (29:12) Dealing with anger and hatred, playing the victim, defense mechanisms, and the minimizing phase. (39:10) Controversial names that were put in the spotlight with the #MeToo movement as Aziz Ansari, Larry Nassar, and Harvey Weinstein. (51:49) Our ideas on how the justice and corrections system can address the issue of rape and sexual assault. (54:35) Fighting victim blaming, the importance of sex education and teaching people how to deal with their urges. (47:54; 1:00:12) The significance of having a support network to prevent the possibility of an escapist victim narrative. (1:03:43) The importance of having a ritual and counseling to be able to deal with similar traumatic experience. (1:07:35)   This was a soul-baring episode and I thank Victoria Smith for allowing us to understand the experience and sharing her journey with us. Share this episode with your network so it can reach the people who need empowering and healing after going through similar trauma.  If you want to connect with Victoria to seek her help with your own experiences, you can reach her through the Tantric Witch website, Instagram, and Facebook page.   For your feedback and questions, email me at ryan [at] theintimatelifestyle [dot] com.
