“Well produced, researched and presented! Informative, historically accurate and it shines the light of history on underreported aspects of Irish history throughout the ages!”

“Terrific insight into the seldom-told aspects of the War of Independence and the cold-blooded brutality of a guerrilla war against the mighty British Empire – often obscured or bypassed by official retelling of the ‘Old IRA’.”

“Both John Dorney and Cathal Brennan consistently interview some of the most interesting voices in Irish History. Their comprehensive understanding of the island’s history enables them to ask the most perceptive questions. I always walk away from each podcast episode with a better understanding of...”Read full review »

“I am an ordinary Aussie woman with as far as I know no Irish ancestry.
I found Martin McGuinness’s segment fascinating and so informative. I had no idea that the the fight for Irish independence was so politically diverse. Thank you to all involved in the production
An excellent podcast.”

“Thoroughly enjoy this podcast! Content is excellent and I love the conversation. Only issue is there are often bad sound differences between speakers and quality sometimes takes away from the conversations. It’d be great if that could be rectified.”
“Cathal Brennan gently asks a question and John Dorney spends the next hour or so answering it, the Irish Story is by some distance the best Irish History podcast around, (Three Castles Burning, which deals only with Dublin, is a close second).
Although joined occasionally by guests like Brain...”Read full review »
“Great show!
Terrible sound ruins it
Presenters have gentle accents and sometimes speak too quickly
In addition sound quality seems variable depending on who is speaking as if only one person is close to a microphone
Simple fix surely?”

“I enjoyed this overview of the happenings of 1641 so much that I will surely look for more podcasts in this series. The back and forth dialogue and questions between the presenters makes history so much easier to grasp than in book narrative form. I will be listening to more from The Irish...”Read full review »

“I love the depth & breadth of this Podcast & the ease with which the hosts explain deep & sometimes provocative subjects
However, I found the episode with Dr. Gareth Mulvenna biased discussion on loyalist gangs the Red Hand etc unpalatable- it was glaringly obvious where his...”Read full review »

“I came across the podcast to listen to John Gibney talk about the Civil War and discovered so much more, including areas about which I knew very little (eg the siege at Jadotville). Recommended for anyone interested in Irish history.”

“Very good show tackling a wide range of topics surrounding Irish history (leaning to the modern side). The guys are very thorough to keep things factual, as a proper historian should, but also have personality and a small bit of back and forth to keep it entertaining. Wish they’d make more...”Read full review »
