A great replacement for actual friendship!
I was a big fan of Bleep Bloop and Nerd Alert (R.I.P), and so when I heard a rumour that Jeff Rubin may be hosting The Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show, I was excited. The rumour turned out to be true, to my delight. Jeff's ability to modulate his voice is outstanding, and this is key in podcast making. I normally listen to podcasts either whilst on a treadmill, or when trying to sleep, and so I need a great voice to block out the pain of running, or the fearful hate of darkness. Jeff's cheerful tone does this perfectly, irrespective of the content of his words! I listened to him talk for like an hour about pizza, and I didn't get even get bored. By coincidence (and a happy one at that), the podcast is full of quality, interesting content. Conversations are based around various topics, usually with a nerdy cult edge, and Jeff is joined most weeks by a guest either in that field, or from the College Humour stable. Jeff Rubin proves himself to be an excellent choice as host, by clearly showing both a deep knowledge of Jeff Rubin's interests, and displaying a natural conversational tone when talking to Jeff Rubin's friends and colleagues. In many respects the podcast acts as a great replacement for actual friendship, as you will get invited back next week even if you just sit in the corner, crying in silence. In fact, and this is possibly a downside, as attempts to join in the conversation usually have little impact, with Jeff Rubin and his guest(s) continuing to talk over you as if you had said nothing. To be fair, I have only tried joining in whilst listening on my iPod, an iPhone user may have more luck. I also have a slight concern regarding the longevity of the podcast, with Jeff Rubin playing such a central role, I struggle to see exactly what the succession plan would be, and so I would be surprised to see The Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show still going strong by the turn of the next century. Still, worth enjoying it whilst it lasts.Read full review »

It always helps when a host or guest has passion for the subjects they talk about and so far each episode has been outstanding in that respect. Really enjoying it so far, can't wait for more.Read full review »
