Joe’s questions are so well researched they even shock the guests at times. You will become more intelligent and curious just by listening

Very thoughtful podcast, but predominantly a very blokey perspective of “mates”. Lacks balance. Could not take any more of his perspective.
Dr Coms via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 08/17/24
Definitely a twist on the drinking game would be to take a swig every time one of Joe’s world-expert guests responds with, “That’s a fascinating question” or “I’ve never been asked that question before” – or similar. Seriously, the number of times a world expert in their field has to pause and...Read full review »

This is a great podcast with a diverse array of topics, as well as diversity of gender. Ignore the petty and pathetic one star reviews like ‘Becky Listens’ this podcast is already being better.

Not sure why the “Jolly Swagman” but it doesn’t matter. Interesting guests and great questions.

For example, in the recent interview with Richard Rhodes, Walker had read and studied his topic deeply. This allowed Rhodes to respond thoughtfully on a large range of topics related to Rhodes’ book on atomic weapons and their past history and future risks. Walker’s is an excellent host and...Read full review »

Jolly swagman is my alltime favourite podcast. With a series of guests that are unparalleled. Erudite perfection!

Wishing the swagman would have a more USA centric podcast as I find him exceptionally intelligent and balanced on every cast. We could use more of this here.

The bronte conversation was the 2nd episode I listened to. Have to say it is great. Jay guides the talk masterfully and otherwise gets out of the way of the great guests. Hope many great follow. And sure they did.

Can’t recommend this podcast highly enough! I am so impressed with Joe Walker. I think he is one of the best podcasters I’ve listened to - he is well-prepared, has great rapport with his guests and at the end of episodes, I am always left wanting more. I’ve listened to several podcasts and I think they’re pretty good Joe—thank you. All extremely interesting topics. But do you have some rule about only talking to men? The only time I saw a woman on your list was when you were interviewing the biographer of Ramsay, a British man from the Oxbridge...Read full review »

The most wide ranging and stimulating podcast I’m aware of. Joe Walker interviews the best minds in the world on subjects as diverse as genetics, philosophy, cosmology and economics. And all this from a guy who hasn’t turned 30.

A wide range of discussion topics with people who really know stuff that matters. A breath of fresh air in that Joe researches his subject, asks insightful questions, then actually lets the guest answer thoroughly. Host Joe Walker us an affable, well-read Aussie who regularly amazes me with the depth of his interviews with some of the planet’s best minds. There’s an economics bent, but Walker is underselling his show by calling it an Australian business podcast. The topics are usually of global relevance...Read full review »

Joe’s wide reading leads to thoughtful questions and insightful conversations. Coupled with the calibre of guests (which includes prime ministers, Harvard professors and billionaires), it makes every new release something to look forward to!

Best economics podcast I’ve heard. Discusses difficult ideas but in accessible ways for non-economists (like me). As a big podcast listener, this is one of the best. Incredibly well researched with surprising array of guests. The show IS long form so be prepared for a decent session.

I see the podcast is classified under “investing” — that’s far too niche a category, sort of like filing the General Theory under “business”. Walker’s podcast is wide ranging, but someone he seems to have read every book his guests go to mention. He gives interviewees space to talk, he’s not...Read full review »

A fantastic podcast, in-depth discussions, nuanced explanations, academically driven. Generally revolving around economics and evolutionary science, interwoven with politics, but not caught up with current afairs, very long-term, broad and analytical.
