I’m an enthusiastic Francophile, and I love this podcast! What I love most is that Diana provides rich context and storytelling to offer such a unique perspective, that I learn new things about regions, people, and bits of French culture I am familiar with. Magnifique!

Listened to everything; the Dreyfus Affair twice. “Ate a Zoo” explained a *lot* about French cuisine. I love the sparkle in Diana’s voice too. Attitude so much better than bland monotone history-telling. Maybe turn your attention to Russia next? So much to unpack!!!

I listen to a lot of podcasts and this one is top notch in terms of the storytelling and research that goes into it. I was totally hooked on the Dreyfus affair series and followed that up with the Three Alexandres which was also great. Looking forward to listening to more!

Great podcast. We discovered and listened to it on our roadtrip around France this summer. Interesting facts and stories, very well researched.

I caught a part of episode 61 on CBC’s Podcast Playlist, and then came to listen to the rest. My afternoon flew by, and I’m subscribing!

Thank you Diana for sharing these interesting insights into France and its history. Diana is an amazing storyteller. She takes historical figures and events, and turns them into fascinating stories that you won’t want to put down. I was drawn to the many historical fiction novels so popular...Read full review »

I like the content, but how hard is it to learn to pronounce the French words correctly, while presenting a show about all things French?

One of my favorite podcasts. And I think the music is just fine.

Content and presentation are outstanding. Please cut the background music, it adds nothing and is distracting.

I’m a former French teacher, lover of all things French, and history buff especially European. I e been to France many times. Diane (Diana?) does a wonderful job of making history come alive in a fluid and entertaining way, music and all. I highly recommend.

I absolutely love listening to these podcasts! They’re so incredibly informative without being overbearing. She keeps it fun and simple, but also so in-depth. I really appreciate that she keeps them relatively short but not too short. It’s literally all perfect. Great work and impeccable research...Read full review »

While we’re all stuck at home, or at least in Ireland, this informative and very well made podcast is the next best thing to traveling to sunnier climes. I worked my way through the entire backlog during the lockdown and am now eagerly awaiting the next episode.

This podcast has taught me a lot about the most famous events and personalities in French history - and a lot about the little-known events and people, too. Diana has a really nice, easy to listen to voice (especially for an American!).

This is a fabulous podcast. I’d have given 5 stars but find the music played during episodes is far too loud. It’s very distracting, takes effort to focus on what’s being said. Please, please turn it down if you really have to have it (you don’t) or use it between paragraphs. What you have to say...Read full review »

Only 3 eps in and already loving it. I hope to find out in future editions that this has a sponsor or two, for it is very worthy. I would pay for this. Simply wonderful, reminds me of the trip I was lucky enough to take to Paris in the spring a few years ago. So glad to have an audio vehicle to...Read full review »

Sadly this podcast began as a wonderful look at France and great French stories and degenerated into a manifesto. I want the story not a look at history through today’s accepted culture. The episodes were originally very regular but have also become very sporadic. Please fix it!

The hostess of Land of Desire - Diana - has a great knowledge base and an ability to conduct tremendous research. She puts various intriguing facts, details, and complicated stories into easy-to-understand presentations. Very enlightening, but not overwhelmingly heavy. A favorite podcast, for sure!
