I love the framing of the podcast and the host and his producers bring interesting voices to the show. I have learned new things about American history from every episode. And every one is well organized and very engaging.

A first class podcast. Informed, thoughtful and tells you the things that you don’t already know or hear from mainstream media. Great to have a historian of Smith’s stature sharing such insights. One of the very best.

A must for anyone interested in the history of the United States and indeed it’s future.

This excellent podcast takes a nuanced look at the United States "from the inside out." Adam Smith is thoroughly knowledgeable about American history and current affairs and does a great job of placing American events in a global perspective. He discusses various topics with a mix of...Read full review »

One of the most stimulating, thoughtful, intelligent podcasts on current issues & thought available. A significant benefit of podcasting is the opportunity to hear from intelligent people who previously would have remained relatively anonymous in academia. This pod is a good example of the...Read full review »

A House Divided…..an excellent exploration….so Lincoln was in a political battle for the soul of the Republican Party, and entry-ism had taken place to push slave-owning into a wider USA? How interesting…so many parallels with today. In the word of the USA….cool!

Loved the episode on Northumbrian influences. Great to hear about a relatively unknown aspect of history.

Found Adam Smith through ‘the rest is history’ podcast, his vignettes of American history are illuminating to a novice like myself

This is one of the two best history podcasts and the best podcast on US history. It requires basic understanding of Us history but it offers interesting topics, fantastic guests and nuanced views. Highly recommend!

A good listen but equating LBJ’s orchestration of the Congress with President Biden’s apparent coalition building and political nous in passing legislation in the current Congress appears, well, to be somewhat far fetched. I would love to hear what Pelosi and Schumer would say about the...Read full review »

I first heard Adam Smith on the Rest is History podcast talking about the American Civil War. He tried hard to maintain some objectivity , albeit it was evidently tough for him, but I thought it worth listening to this podcast as a result. I listened to the podcast on states rights. To be fair...Read full review »

Wonderful view of American history from an academic and outsider point of view. It’s very helpful to see how American history is viewed from this perspective. Some things seem obvious from within the system look very odd from outside it. Brilliant and insightful guests and a thoughtful,...Read full review »

Adam seamlessly musters a team of experts to explain why the US is our best hope (?) that is both alarmingly failing & under threat. Essential listening ....

I wanted to like this podcast because it was recommended by the hosts of The Rest is History. But, just a few episodes reveal that Adam Smith and his guests present a politically biased view of America. I would not waste my time.
