In trying to be apolitical, reveals its own racist politics
I have long appreciated Mark’s ability to summarize current news affairs into broader critiques of the secular culture wars and the shifting world order. But as someone who is from the Global South, the incredible whiteness of this worldview in recent episodes, particularly referencing the Middle East, has been incredibly disappointing. There is no acknowledgement of the continual meddling of the western powers in the Middle East that has led to current-day destabilization — the words “US imperialism” or “colonialism” are never uttered. The statelessness and displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank is never referenced, nor is Israel’s status as an apartheid state, verified by many humanitarian — even religious — organizations. It is hard to see this as anything other than racism, the continuous dehumanization of those dirty brown “terrorist” Others, while their actions to resist are labelled “barbaric.” You all have lost your way and forgotten Christ in the Rubble, the nativity scene last year from the church at Bethlehem. I will not be seeking your wisdom from hereon.

Very good discourse integrating faith and life. Though provoking. Funny too. Love it.

Please fix the audio, it’s really poor, especially on new episodes. Content is 100
