Unexpected
As someone who got a C in 8th grade art class, I thought that the gates of visual art and its appreciation were effectively closed to me, but I find myself understanding and enjoying the concepts and comparisons that Ms. Avishai presents so eloquently and effectively. The artworks are presented first at the most literal description of their content by people viewing the pieces- then we learn the cultural context of the pieces, which is a lot more interesting than I would have thought. I had believed art history to be stuffy and boring- a class that college students take because it fulfills a core requirement; but rather, through Avishai's guidance have found that talking about art can be relevant, interesting, and often funny. Things I have said about "The Lonely Palette": "I learned and I didn't even mean to." "I didn't realize how stressed I was until I turned off the news and put on 'The Lonely Palette'" "'The Lonely Palette' got me SO laid last night". "'Lonely Palette' cleared up my acne" "'Crap...I lost half my body in an emu attack...at least I have 'The Lonely Palette'"Read full review »

The Lonely Palette is exquisite! So enriching and enjoyable to any person interested in art, whether an art historian or, like me, the novice. Tamar's beautiful voice and eloquent texts transport me to the favorite corners of the museum. I feel like I've been on vacation. Superb!Read full review »

I always feel smarter after I’ve heard one of Tamar Avishai’s episodes. I also feel I’ve been entertained, stimulated, and befriended by one sassy teacher. Really forward to every episode! It’s my every-other-Wednesday treat.
