“If you start anywhere on this podcast, start with the 3-part series on relationships and communication from April 2021. I first stumbled on one of these episodes after storming upstairs, upset at my husband for not listening and not caring…yet again. We had tried couples counseling, but my husband wasn’t really engaged in it- he is the type that really needs to listen to ideas like this privately, mull them over in his head for hours or days, and then decide how to respond. Couples therapy is also only as good as the therapist, and ours unfortunately had presented Gottman in a much more gender-biased/ gaslighting manner (eg “if women would just ignore all their needs and concerns and stop nagging, their relationships would be fine). This podcast presents a modern take on evidence based research- in a way that really applies to egalitarian-focused marriages. She doesn’t just tell you what to do or not to do. She is great at describing what you might feel when certain relationship phenomena are happening. Unlike most of the other relationship advice out there, this advice provides very sound empathetic advice for both perspectives in a relationship- far better than the “that’s toxic, dump him now” advice articles all over the internet. After listening to that 3-part series on relationship communication from April 2021, I texted one of the episodes to my husband and asked him to listen to it. He did, then listened to the series and started listening to the other episodes too. And I have seen more progress in our relationship from what he has learned here than from anything else we have tried. The one request I have is to change the podcast banner and graphics, so it is better marketed to both men and women.”
